Hurwitz, Saul Israel
(1860-1922)
   Russian Hebrew author. He was born in Uvarovichi and became a merchant and banker. He moved to Berlin after the 1905 revolution, but having returned to Russia in 1914 he lost his fortune in the Communist Revolution of 1917. Eventually he moved back to Berlin, where he became a prominent figure among emigre Hebrew writers. With Hayyim Nahum Bialik, he directed the Kelal Publishing House. He contributed stories and articles to Hebrew journals and established his own periodical, He-Atid.
